A. Access Health Center offers free walk-in urine pregnancy testing. No appointment is needed for a free urine pregnancy test.

Q. How do I know what abortion is right for me?

A. Surgical Abortions are offered to end a pregnancy from 5 to 17.3 weeks (17 weeks 3 days) in gestation. Non-surgical abortions, sometimes called medical abortions, are FDA approved to end an early pregnancy by administering a series of medications up to 7 weeks gestation. Based on your gestation, Access Health Center will help you determine what abortion option is best for you.

Q. What is gestation?

A. Gestation is the duration from which conception occurred and is calculated approximately from the first day of the last menstrual period. Gestation is always measured at Access Health Center with an ultrasound.

Q. How effective is an abortion?

A. Medical Abortion is approximately 80% to 97% effective. For the small percentage of patients in which a pregnancy termination does not occur or is incomplete with a Medical Abortion, a Surgical Abortion is required to complete the process. Surgical Abortion is almost 100% effective.

Q. What happens during a Surgical Abortion?

A. The typical process for a surgical abortion is vacuum aspiration or suction curettage, also sometimes called a D&C. A Surgical Abortion procedure for a second trimester termination is done in two steps on two consecutive days. Surgical Abortion patients have the option to undergo Twilight anesthesia.
